THE NEW YORK WAYTES
l’Arte di Suonare
Early 17th century sonatas (literally "the sounding of instruments") were like sun and soil to the flowering of the baroque aesthetic. The first instrumental style to emerge in this new ground was the fanciful and vivacious Stylus Fantasticus. It features spirited rhetorical dialogues of tempos, affects, timbres, textures, etc.—stark contrasts of audio juxtaposed. Our program invites you into the middle of this verdant, dreamlike garden of sounds.
